Liquid Oxygen Tank Drain Pan Maintenance: A Guide for Healthcare Professionals
A requirement for human survival, oxygen helps our bodies manufacture energy. Without it, we can't live long. Unfortunately, some diseases inhibit a patient's ability to get enough oxygen. To counter this, oxygen therapy is often prescribed. Liquid oxygen tanks can be a good choice for active patients, as they are portable, hold more oxygen than compressed gas tanks and often weigh less than ten pounds. With proper maintenance, including caring for the drain pan, or drip pan, as it's commonly known, a liquid oxygen tank can help you or your loved one lead a healthier, more comfortable life.Things You'll Need
- Clean cloth
- Soap
- Water
Instructions
Keep the tank upright in a standing position. If it gets knocked over, or if you hear a hissing sound, contact your liquid oxygen provider.
Check the humidifier. If the water level is low, empty it. Refill with distilled or sterile water. The water should be changed daily.
Remove the drip pan from the bottom of the tank. Wipe off any condensation and wash the pan with soap and water. Dry it thoroughly and replace. Repeat every 48 hours.
