Hyperventilation is a condition in which a person breathes much faster than the body requires. This causes the levels of carbon dioxide in the blood to decrease, which leads to respiratory alkalosis. It can be caused by several factors, including anxiety, panic attacks, or physical exertion. Symptoms of respiratory alkalosis can include:
- Lightheadedness
- Dizziness
- Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
- Muscle spasms
- Rapid heart rate
