Understanding Airflow During Exhalation: Intrapulmonary Pressure & Lung Function
When intrapulmonary pressure increases over atmospheric, air flows out of the lungs. This is because the pressure gradient between the lungs and the atmosphere is reversed, causing air to move from the high-pressure area (the lungs) to the low-pressure area (the atmosphere).
