How to Bathe With Poison Oak
Poison oak exposure can cause an irritating, itchy rash. In some cases, the rash can blister. Scratching can spread the oils, causing the rash to spread as well. Soothe the itch with topical creams, ice and oatmeal baths to reduce the risk of scratching and making the rash worse. Soak in an oatmeal bath regularly until the rash subsides. Mixing the oatmeal bath properly will ensure the longest possible itch relief.Things You'll Need
- Colloidal oatmeal
- Antihistamine lotion
- Cotton towels
Instructions
Fill a bathtub to a comfortable level with lukewarm water.
Pour 2 to 3 cups of finely processed oatmeal into the water and stir to dissolve the oatmeal completely. Put traditional oatmeal into a food processor for a few seconds to break it up to a powder consistency if needed.
Soak in the water for 15 to 30 minutes. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Do not rub your skin with the towel as this can irritate and spread the rash.
Repeat the bath process every eight hours until the rash subsides. Use an antihistamine lotion to treat the rash for itching in between bathing.
