Can You Get a Rash From Ringworm?

Causes

Symptoms

• Ringworm can create rashes that vary from large, bumpy red rings to red swaths of skin that are flaky and dry; it is common for ringworm to itch, and the infection may cause discoloration of nails or hair.

Treatment

• Applying over-the-counter antifungal creams containing miconazole or clotrimazole to the rashes is often an adequate cure for ringworm; more severe cases may require prescription medication.

Prevention

• To prevent ringworm, shower regularly and stay away from contact with infected people. Those with ringworm should cover their rashes with medical tape and clothing to keep the fungus from spreading.
