Child with Fever and Rash: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor
Fever and rashes in a child can be caused by a variety of illnesses, some of which may be serious. If your child has a fever and a rash, it is important to see a doctor promptly so they can determine the cause and provide appropriate treatment.
While you are waiting to see a doctor, there are several things you can do to help your child:
- Give your child ibuprofen or acetaminophen to reduce their fever and pain. (Follow the dosage instructions on the medication bottle.)
- Keep your child cool and comfortable. Dress them in lightweight clothing and use a cool compress on their forehead.
- Offer your child plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
- Monitor your child's condition closely. Watch for any signs that may indicate a more serious illness, such as confusion, seizures, or difficulty breathing.
If your child's condition worsens, or if you have any concerns, it is important to seek medical attention right away.
