Cystic Fibrosis: Gender Impact & Genetic Basis

Cystic fibrosis affects males and females equally. It is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, meaning that both copies of the gene responsible for the condition must be mutated for the individual to develop the disease. Males and females are equally likely to inherit these mutations and therefore be affected by cystic fibrosis.
