How to Cure a Pinched Nerve in the Leg
Pinched nerves occur in the legs from overuse, disease, pregnancy or some sort of trauma. They can cause excruciating pain for the injured person, and if left untreated can eventually cause a loss of muscle function. Most pinched nerves, with a little help, will resolve themselves without surgery.Things You'll Need
- Ice
- Towel
- Ibuprofen
Instructions
Take ibuprofen or another anti-inflammatory drug. This will decrease swelling and ease any pain you may feel.
Ice the pinched nerve in the 48 hours following the initial injury. Apply ice wrapped in a towel for no more than 20 minutes every two hours.
Rest if the pinched nerve is from overuse. Take a few days and rest your legs as much as you can to give the muscles a rest.
Begin to exercise after two or three days of rest if your pinch nerve persists. Walk, bike or do yoga to stretch out the leg muscles and try to release the nerve.
