Ergonomic Computer Workstation Setup: Best Posture & Positioning
The body mechanics of sitting at a computer workstation are very important. Proper posture allows you to work speedily and effectively at a computer workstation for hours every day. Poor posture, however, can set you up for aches, pains, eye problems and a variety of overuse injuries. Turning poor posture into proper posture requires a bit of discipline, but is easy to accomplish.
Instructions
Adjust the height of your chair so your feet are flat on the floor and your legs almost form a 90-degree angle. Position the armrests, if your chair has them, so your forearms will comfortably rest on them without you having to slouch.
Adjust your keyboard. The surface that supports your keyboard should fall between 1 and 2 inches above your thighs.
Adjust your monitor to be between 20 and 26 inches away from you. If it is not possible to move the monitor, move yourself.
Be conscious of your regular posture. Keep your spine straight by keeping your ears aligned with your shoulders and your shoulders aligned with your hips.
