Adipex-P (Phentermine): Dosage, Use & Important Information
Adipex-P (phentermine hydrochloride) is a stimulant medication used to treat obesity in individuals 16 years or older. Prescribed for short-term use only, this appetite suppressant stimulates the central nervous system and elevates the blood pressure to achieve desired metabolic effects crucial for weight loss. Adipex-P is available by prescription and comes in capsule and tablet form. The typical dosage for Adipex-P is one 37.5mg tablet or capsule once a day, but some patients are prescribed 75mg doses. Your doctor will individualize your dosage to fit your needs.
Instructions
Talk to your doctor about your medical history before taking Adipex-P. Patients with hypertension or a history of drug abuse must use caution when taking Adipex-P.
Follow the prescribed dosage instructions. Your doctor might instruct you to take 75mg of Adipex-P one to two hours before breakfast, or one to two hours after.
Swallow Adipex-P capsules or tablets whole. Never chew, crush or break medication before swallowing.
Contact your doctor if this medication is not working. Do not stop using Adipex-P unless instructed by your doctor.
Never double up on doses. If you miss a dose of medication, skip the missed dose and continue with regular dosing.
