Lactose Intolerance: Understanding the Role of Height & Weight
Height and weight are generally not considered significant factors in lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance is primarily determined by the levels of the enzyme lactase in a person's small intestine. Lactase is responsible for breaking down the sugar (lactose) found in milk and dairy products. Individuals with lactose intolerance have insufficient lactase, leading to difficulty digesting lactose, resulting in symptoms such as bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea.
Therefore, lactose intolerance is primarily related to the body's ability to produce lactase and is not directly associated with a person's height or weight.
