Symptoms of dysentery
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea that is often bloody or contains mucus
- Fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Headache
- Muscle weakness
- Loss of appetite
In severe cases, dysentery can lead to:
- Dehydration
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Kidney failure
- Sepsis
- Death
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Severe diarrhoea and vomiting that lasts more than 2 days
- High fever (over 102°F)
- Bloody diarrhoea
- Severe abdominal pain
- Dehydration (symptoms can include dizziness, lightheadedness, confusion, or lethargy)
