Kinesio Tape Application for Shoulder Pain & Injury Prevention
Kinesio tape is a style of athletic wrapping designed to help prevent injuries, as well as to alleviate pain from existing injuries. A simple kinesio wrap to complete is the shoulder, which is a great aide for athletes participating in sports like basketball or volleyball where a great deal of work is done by the upper body.Things You'll Need
- Kinesio tape, two feet
- Scissors
Instructions
Cut a 12-inch piece of kinesio tape.
Make a rounded cut at each end of the kinesio tape. You should end up with 12-inch long piece of tape capped off by a 0.5-inch-deep arc at each end of the tape.
Make a vertical cut from one end of the tape until you are two inches from the other end of the tape, down the center of the tape.
Remove the non-stick backing, and place the uncut end of the tape halfway down the upper arm, with the split ends facing up toward the shoulder.
Wrap the split ends of the tape around the muscles of the shoulder.
Cut another 12-inch piece of kinesio tape.
Place one end of the strip one inch further up the shoulder than the two split ends from the first piece of tape reach.
Instruct the recipient of the tape to extend their arms out parallel to the ground, and press the remainder of the tape down so that it runs over the center of the shoulder, and passes over the uncut end of the first piece of tape.
