Function- Flex neck (prime mover) by contracting both heads unilaterally
- Turn face contralaterally by contracting only on one side
- Help stabilize scapula anteriorly.
- Tensor nuchae: Upper fibers extend head
- Omohyoid: Infraglottic fibers depress hyoid
