Why is there no muscle atrophy in upper motor neuron lesions?

This statement isn't accurate, muscle atrophy is often associated with upper motor neuron lesions. In upper motor neuron lesions, muscle weakness and spasticity are the main clinical features, but muscle atrophy can occur as well.
