Understanding Rib Numbering: A Guide to the Human Rib Cage
The ribs are numbered from 1 to 12, starting from the top. The first seven ribs are known as "true ribs" because they attach directly to the sternum (breastbone). The eighth, ninth, and tenth ribs are known as "false ribs" because they attach to the seventh rib via cartilage. The eleventh and twelfth ribs are known as "floating ribs" because they do not attach to the sternum or any other rib.Muscle Strains - Related Articles
