Metabolic syndrome is a group of symptoms that, when they appear together, show an increased risk of coronary artery disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Reduce or eliminate refined grains, processed meat, fried foods, red meat, eggs and soda from your diet, according to The University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
Start adding high-fiber vegetables, lean meats, fish, whole grains and low-fat dairy to your diet. The Mayo Clinic recommends the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet and the Mediterranean Diet as two excellent ways to start planning healthier meals.
Eat breakfast. This is a great way to prevent any unnecessary snacking on junk food later in the day.
Pack healthy lunches and snacks. This will help you avoid temptation and eating fatty foods.
Replace sodas with teas or flavored water. Researchers believe even diet soda can worsen metabolic syndrome, so unfortunately the soda will have to go.
