Roundworm Infections: Symptoms, Causes & Prevention
* Ascariasis: This is the most common roundworm infection and is caused by the roundworm Ascaris lumbricoides. Ascariasis can cause abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, and malnutrition.* Hookworm infection: This is caused by hookworms, which are small roundworms that live in the soil. Hookworm infection can cause anaemia, weakness, and abdominal pain.
* Trichuriasis: This is caused by the roundworm Trichuris trichiura, also known as the whipworm. Trichuriasis can cause diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and malnutrition.
* Strongyloidiasis: This is caused by the roundworm Strongyloides stercoralis. Strongyloidiasis can cause diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and skin rashes.
* Visceral larva migrans: This is a rare condition that occurs when roundworm larvae migrate through the internal organs. Visceral larva migrans can cause fever, cough, abdominal pain, and neurological problems.
