ANA Positive & High Globulin: Understanding Potential Causes & Next Steps
An ANA (antinuclear antibody) test is a blood test that measures the levels of antibodies that are directed against the body's own cell nuclei. A positive ANA test result indicates that the immune system is producing these antibodies, which can be a sign of an autoimmune disease. However, a positive ANA test alone does not necessarily mean that someone has lupus. Other tests and evaluations are needed to confirm a diagnosis of lupus.
A high globulin level in the blood can also be a sign of an autoimmune disease, including lupus. Globulins are a type of protein that are produced by the immune system. When the immune system is overactive, as it is in autoimmune diseases, it can produce high levels of globulins. However, a high globulin level alone does not necessarily mean that someone has lupus. Other tests and evaluations are needed to confirm a diagnosis of lupus.
If you have a positive ANA test result and a high globulin level in the blood, it is important to see your doctor for further evaluation to determine the cause and discuss the appropriate treatment options.
