Nephrotic Syndrome: Uncommon Symptoms & What to Expect
Signs not characteristic of nephrotic syndrome:
- Hypertension: Blood pressure is typically low or normal in nephrotic syndrome, due to the loss of protein and fluid from the body.
- Oliguria: Urine output is typically normal or increased in nephrotic syndrome, due to the increased permeability of the glomeruli to water and solutes.
- Edema: Edema is a hallmark of nephrotic syndrome, caused by the accumulation of fluid in the interstitial spaces due to low serum albumin levels.
- Hypercholesterolemia: Hypercholesterolemia is a common finding in nephrotic syndrome, due to the increased production of lipoproteins by the liver in response to the low serum albumin levels.
