Understanding Low-Attenuation Findings Near the Kidney: Causes & Conditions
Low-attenuation with anterior of kidney may refer to a number of conditions, including:
- Pararenal hematoma: a collection of blood outside the kidney but between the kidney and its surrounding fascia. This can occur as a result of trauma or surgery.
- Perinephric abscess: a collection of pus outside the kidney but within the perinephric fascia. This can occur as a result of infection spreading from the kidney or from a nearby organ.
- Hydronephrosis: a condition in which the kidney becomes swollen due to a blockage in the flow of urine. This can occur as a result of a kidney stone, a tumor, or other obstruction.
- Renal cysts: fluid-filled sacs that can develop in the kidney. These are often benign, but can sometimes be cancerous.
- Cystic renal cell carcinoma: a type of kidney cancer that is characterized by the presence of multiple cysts.
