Kidney Dialysis Equipment: Hemodialysis & Peritoneal Dialysis Systems
Hemodialysis machine
* The most common type of dialysis machine
* Uses a semipermeable membrane to separate waste products from the blood
* Blood is pumped through the machine and the waste products are removed
* The clean blood is then returned to the body
Peritoneal dialysis machine
* A less common type of dialysis machine
* Uses a peritoneal dialysis solution to remove waste products from the blood
* The solution is instilled into the peritoneal cavity (the space around the kidneys) and the waste products are absorbed into the solution
* The solution is then drained from the peritoneal cavity
Other equipment used in kidney dialysis
* Dialysis needles
* Blood pressure monitor
* Heart rate monitor
* Oxygen saturation monitor
* Scales
* Sterile gloves
* Gowns
* Masks
