What causes fluid in your intestine?
There are several factors that can cause fluid in your intestines:
• Diarrhea
• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
• Celiac disease
• Crohn's disease
• Food intolerance or allergies
• Constipation
• Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
• Pancreatitis
• Gastroenteritis
• Diverticulitis
• Bacterial infections
• Viral infections
• Medications
Some medications, such as antibiotics, antifungals, and chemotherapy, can also cause fluid in the intestines. Talk to your doctor if you think a medication may be the cause. In rare cases, fluid in the intestines can be a sign of a serious medical condition, such as an intestinal obstruction or cancer. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting along with fluid in your intestines.
