Pregnancy Possibility: Tracking Ovulation & Intercourse Dates
There is a possibility of pregnancy if intercourse occurred during the ovulation period (May 3-7) or in the days leading up to it. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for several days, so intercourse before ovulation can still result in fertilization. However, it is important to note that the likelihood of pregnancy decreases the further away from the ovulation period intercourse occurs.
To determine if pregnancy has occurred, a pregnancy test can be taken. Pregnancy tests can detect the presence of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine or blood, which is produced by the developing embryo. Pregnancy tests are most accurate when taken at least one week after the missed menstrual period.
