D&C After Miscarriage: Do You Need One? - What to Expect
A dilatation and curettage (D&C) is not always necessary after a miscarriage. The decision of whether or not to perform a D&C is made on a case-by-case basis by the healthcare provider.
In some cases, a D&C may be needed to remove retained placental tissue after incomplete miscarriage. It may also be recommended in cases of missed miscarriage where the fetus has stopped developing but has not been expelled naturally. If the miscarriage is complete and there is no evidence of retained tissue, a D&C may not be required.
