PPO Coverage During Pregnancy: Rights and Protection
A PPO cannot expire while a woman is pregnant.
According to the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA), it is illegal to discriminate against pregnant women in any aspect of employment, including benefits. This means that a woman's PPO must continue to cover her pregnancy and childbirth expenses, even if her PPO would otherwise expire during her pregnancy.
If your PPO has expired or is about to expire, you should contact your employer's human resources department or your PPO provider to ensure that your coverage will continue during your pregnancy. You may also want to consult with a lawyer to discuss your rights under the PDA.
