Understanding Menstrual Cycles: Hormones & Ovulation

Menstrual cycles happen because of changes in hormone levels in girls' bodies. During a menstrual cycle, an egg in one of the girl's ovaries matures and is released (ovulation), and the lining of the womb builds up in case the egg is fertilised.
