HIV Transmission: Can HIV Be Spread Through Kissing?
The short answer is no. You cannot contract HIV from kissing someone on the lips.
HIV is a virus that is transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen, or vaginal fluids. It is not transmitted through saliva or other bodily fluids such as tears or sweat.
To become infected with HIV, the virus must enter your bloodstream. This can happen through:
* Sharing needles or other drug paraphernalia with someone who has HIV
* Having unprotected sex with someone who has HIV
* Receiving a blood transfusion or organ transplant with HIV-infected blood or organs
Kissing on the lips with someone who is infected with HIV does not pose a risk of transmission because the virus is not present in saliva. However, it is important to note that other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can be transmitted through kissing, such as herpes simplex virus (HSV) and syphilis.
