HIV & Shower Drains: Understanding Transmission and Survival
The AIDS virus cannot survive in shower drains. The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes AIDS, is a fragile virus that is easily killed by heat, sunlight, and disinfectants. It cannot survive outside the body for more than a few minutes, and it is not transmitted through contact with surfaces such as shower drains.
HIV is transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen, or vaginal fluids. It is not spread through casual contact, such as touching someone who is infected with HIV or sharing a meal with them.
