Understanding Ideal Blood Pressure for Middle-Aged Women: Ranges & What's Normal
For adults aged 18 and over, a normal blood pressure reading is less than 120/80 mmHg. Your healthcare provider will classify your blood pressure based on the following ranges.
NORMAL
Systolic: Less than 120 mmHg
Diastolic: Less than 80 mmHg
ELEVATED
Systolic: 120-129 mmHg
Diastolic: Less than 80mmHg
STAGE 1 HYPERTENSION
Systolic: 130-139 mmHg
Diastolic: 80-89 mmHg
STAGE 2 HYPERTENSION
Systolic: 140 mmHg or higher
Diastolic: 90 mmHg or higher
HYPERTENSIVE CRISIS (Emergency care needed at once due to severe hypertension)
Systolic: Higher than 180 mmHg
Diastolic: Higher than 120 mmHg
