Adrenal hypertension is a form of secondary high blood pressure. In other words, it is hypertension that stems from an unusual source, something other than standard causes like obesity or poor diet. In adrenal hypertension the cause is that there is some sort of defect or disorder of the adrenal glands, which are small organs that lie atop a person's kidneys. Diagnosis of adrenal hypertension can often be difficult but is important.

  To begin with, see your primary care doctor for a routine physical examination, being sure to ask what your blood pressure is after they've checked it. It should be roughly within the range of 120/80. If it differs from this and is significantly higher then your medical professional will inform you that you suffer from hypertension.

  The next step is to make sure that your doctor checks for secondary causes of hypertension, something that many physicians neglect to do. In order to do this they should order blood and urine screening tests. These tests will screen for adrenal gland abnormalities and anomalies.

  If any adrenal hypertension symptoms are found then you must be tested for several different conditions which may have caused it, including Cushing's syndrome, hyperaldosteronism and pheochromocytoma. Make sure that your doctor has all of these conditions in mind when looking for a diagnosis.
