Managing Itching During HSV-2 Outbreaks: Relief and Management
Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) is a viral disease. Once transmitted to a person, it causes lesions at the infected spot. In most cases, the lesions will recur in the same spot. Prior to each outbreak, the affected spot may begin to itch. The itching may stop when the lesions emerge, or or it may persist until the outbreak resolves itself. While there is no cure for HSV-2, symptoms such as the annoying itching can be alleviated.Things You'll Need
- Hair dryer
- Baking soda or cornstarch
- Cotton swab
Instructions
Take a bath in hot water.
Dry the affected area with a hair dryer. The heat helps soothe the itching, and the hair dryer gets the area completely dry without irritation from a towel.
Apply baking soda or cornstarch to the area with a moist cotton swab. The powder will soothe the itching, dry the lesions and help them to heal more quickly. Dispose of the cotton swab immediately after making the application. Do not reuse it.
Put on loose-fitting clothing to prevent further irritation of the area.
