Liver Transplant Lifespan: What to Expect
The expected length of time a transplanted liver will function will vary greatly from person to person.
Some liver transplants can last for up to 20 years in some individuals - however, on average a transplanted liver may likely need to be replaced within 7 to 15 years from the transplant.
Multiple factors must be taken into consideration such as; recipient age, the condition of the donated liver, any health problems experienced before the transplant, the medications to prevent the body from rejecting the new liver as well as lifestyle behaviors (e.g diet/ smoking or not etc.).
