Vein Valves: How They Ensure Blood Flow Towards the Heart
Veins have one-way valves to maintain unidirectional flow of blood towards the heart. These valves are made of thin flaps of tissue and are found at regular intervals along the veins. They open when blood is flowing towards the heart, and close when the blood tries to flow backwards.
