Ultrasound at 7 Weeks with No Heartbeat: What Does It Mean?
It is not normal to have an ultrasound (ultra) at seven weeks without seeing a heartbeat.
Normally, a heartbeat can be detected on an ultrasound as early as six weeks. If no heartbeat is detected at 7 weeks, it could be due to a few factors, including:
- The pregnancy may have ended in a miscarriage.
- The gestational age may have been incorrectly determined and an earlier follow up ultrasound may need to be scheduled.
- The fetus may be too small to detect a heartbeat; in which case, a repeat ultrasound may be recommended in 1-2 weeks.
It's important to discuss the results of the ultrasound and any concerns with a healthcare professional. They will be able to provide guidance and determine the next steps, such as repeating the ultrasound or performing further tests.
