Heart Anatomy: Understanding the Apex and Base
The heart has a base located superiorly and an apex located inferiorly. The apex, formed by the meeting of the left ventricle and the right ventricle, is located at approximately the fifth intercostal space, slightly lateral from the midclavicular line.
