Armpit Hair and Puberty: What You Need to Know
The growth of armpit hair is a common sign of puberty. Puberty is a process of physical changes that occurs in both boys and girls as they transition from childhood to adulthood. It usually starts between the ages of 8 and 13, but can begin earlier or later. Other physical changes that occur during puberty include:
- Growth spurt
- Changes in voice
- Development of breasts in girls
- Growth of facial hair in boys
- Increased sweating
- Acne
The growth of armpit hair and other pubertal changes are triggered by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland and adrenal glands. These hormones cause changes in the body that lead to the development of secondary sexual characteristics, such as armpit hair.
