Navy SEAL Eyesight Requirements: Vision Standards & Specs
To become a Navy SEAL, candidates must meet the following eyesight requirements:
Visual Acuity:
- Distant Visual Acuity (corrected): 20/20 in each eye
- Near Visual Acuity (corrected): 20/20 in each eye
Refractive Errors:
- Myopia (nearsightedness): No more than -8.00 diopters in either eye
- Hyperopia (farsightedness): No more than +4.00 diopters in either eye
- Astigmatism: No more than 2.00 diopters in either eye
Color Vision:
- Must have normal color vision as determined by the Ishihara Color Plates or similar test.
Candidates who fail to meet these eyesight requirements may still be eligible for a waiver if they demonstrate that they can perform the essential duties of a Navy SEAL despite their vision limitations. Waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis by a board of medical experts.
