Raw Shrimp & Tonsillitis: Possible Link & Food Safety
Eating raw shrimp and tonsillitis may not be directly related. However, raw shrimp can carry bacteria, such as Vibrio parahaemolyticus, that can cause foodborne illnesses.
Symptoms of foodborne illnesses caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus can include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, and chills. These symptoms may resemble the symptoms of tonsillitis, which is an infection or inflammation of the tonsils.
If you experience symptoms after consuming raw shrimp, you should see a doctor to determine the exact cause of your symptoms and receive appropriate treatment.
