Phlegm: Production, Location & Difference from Nasal Mucus

Phlegm is not produced and stored in the nose. It is a thick mucus produced in the lungs and airways in response to inflammation or irritation. The nose produces mucus, but it is typically thin and watery and helps to trap dust, allergens, and other particles from entering the lungs.
