Oral & Esophageal Thrush: Symptoms, Causes & Treatment
Oral Thrush Symptoms:- White or yellow creamy patches, often on the tongue but also on the roof of the mouth and/or inside of cheeks.
- Slight bleeding when the patches are scraped off.
- Discomfort or pain while swallowing.
- Sensation of soreness or a burning feeling in the mouth or throat.
- Cracking at the corners of the mouth.
- Loss of taste or altered taste sensations.
Esophageal Thrush Symptoms (in rare cases when thrush spreads from the mouth to the esophagus):
- Difficulty or pain swallowing.
- Pain or discomfort that feels like something is stuck or caught in the throat (this is called dysphagia).
- Burning sensation or discomfort behind the breastbone.
Genital Thrush Symptoms (for both men and women):
- Itching and irritation of the affected areas (usually the genitals or surrounding skin).
- Redness and/or swelling.
- Burning sensation during urination.
- Thick, white discharge from the vagina in women or milky white discharge from the penis in men.
- Pain during intercourse.
