Apple Cider Vinegar & Acid Reflux: Does It Really Help?
The jury is still out on whether or not apple cider vinegar (ACV) is effective for acid reflux. While some studies have shown that ACV can help to improve symptoms of acid reflux, others have found no benefit.
One study found that taking ACV diluted in water before a meal could help to reduce stomach acid production and improve reflux symptoms. Another study found that ACV could help to soothe and protect the lining of the esophagus, which can be damaged by acid reflux.
However, some studies have not found any benefit to taking ACV for acid reflux. For example, one study found that there was no difference in acid reflux symptoms between those who took ACV and those who took a placebo.
Additional research is needed to determine if ACV is effective for acid reflux, the optimal dose, and any potential side effects. If you are considering using ACV for acid reflux, talk to your doctor first, especially if you are pregnant, have a medical condition, or are taking any medications.
