Shingles Vaccine: When to Get It (and When to Wait)
It is not recommended to receive the shingles vaccine while actively experiencing a shingles outbreak. The vaccine is most effective when given to individuals who have never had shingles, or who have recovered from shingles and are not currently experiencing active symptoms.
If you believe you are having a shingles outbreak, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional as soon as possible. Treatment can reduce the pain and duration of the infection. Your healthcare provider may make additional recommendations regarding vaccination based on your situation.
