Rib Artery Supply: Understanding Arterial Circulation in the Thorax
Arteries supplying blood to the rib area:
- Posterior intercostal arteries (1st-11th): Branches of the aorta, except for the Supreme intercostal and subcostal arteries
- Anterolateral intercostal arteries (2nd-7th): Branches of the internal thoracic artery (branches of the subclavian artery)
- Musculophrenic arteries (3rd-11th): Branches of internal thoracic artery; pass inferoposteriorly through the thoracic wall at the costal margin
- Pericardiophrenic artery: Branch of internal thoracic artery, supplies lateral thoracic wall and adjacent regions
- Superior epigastric artery: Branch of internal thoracic artery
- Lumbar arteries (4 pairs): Continuation of aorta into abdomen
