Hot Glue Burn First Aid: Treatment & Prevention
For minor burns:
1. Stop the burning process immediately. Remove the source of heat, such as the hot glue gun. Move the affected area away from the heat source.
2. Cool the burn. Hold the burn under cool, running water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use ice, as this can damage the skin.
3. Remove any clothing or jewelry that is constricting the burn.
4. Apply a clean, dry bandage to the burn. Do not apply any ointments, lotions, or creams, as these can trap heat and worsen the burn.
5. Monitor the burn for signs of infection, such as increased pain, swelling, redness, or drainage. If any of these symptoms occur, see a doctor immediately.
For serious burns (such as those that are large, deep, or blisters):
1. Seek medical attention immediately.
2. Do not attempt to treat the burn yourself.
3. Cover the burn with a clean, dry cloth or bandage to prevent infection.
4. Try to keep the burn elevated above the heart to reduce swelling.
