Sedation During Bone Fracture Repair: What You Need to Know
Sedation is not routinely used for setting broken bones. While local anesthesia may be used to numb the pain during bone reposition, sedation — which refers to the use of medications to induce a state of reduced consciousness or sleepiness — is typically reserved for more complex or invasive medical procedures. If a more complete state of unconsciousness is needed for an orthopedic procedure, general anesthesia may be used instead.
