How to Dry Out a Fiberglass Cast
While your fiberglass cast is designed to protect your fractured or broken body part as it heals, you must do your part to properly care for the cast. An advantage of a fiberglass cast is that the outer layer won't deteriorate or weaken when wet, unlike a plaster cast. Yet, you still need to dry your fiberglass cast properly.Things You'll Need
- Cool tap water (optional)
- Thick towels
- Hair dryer with low to medium heat setting (optional)
Instructions
Rinse the cast with cool tap water after swimming in a lake or chlorinated pool, and make sure there is no debris trapped at the opening of the cast.
Wrap the cast-encased body part with a thick towel, and prop it on a couple of layers of thick towels to soak up excess water.
Wait three to four hours for the cast to completely dry, or remove the towel wrapped around the cast and direct a hair dryer on low or medium heat onto the cast to hasten the drying process.
