How to Prevent IOM
Idiopathic Orbital Myositis is a rare but serious disorder. The word "idiopathic" in the name of this condition reveals that the cause is unknown. Despite that, studied cases reveal some common threads such as infection, weakened immune system and inflammation. That lends some insight into possible steps you can take to prevent it.
Instructions
Care for your health. Some cases of IOM are related to diseases that weaken the immune system such as Crohns disease. Stress, lack of sleep and alcohol are all related to diminished immune function.
Track any symptoms you have related to your eyes and sinuses. Frequent sinus infections have been linked to IOM. Take all antibiotics as directed by your doctor to clear any sinus infections and discuss your concerns about IOM with a specialist.
Speak to a doctor immediately if you can see or feel a growth or abscess around or in your eye. Medical literature suggests that abscess and injury can cause IOM. Treating the abscess before it develops can prevent IOM.
Continue treatment for any immunity related diseases that you have. Lupus, Crohns and HIV are common diseases that can prevent the immune system from protecting your body. If you are taking prescribed medication to treat any of these conditions, continue taking your medication to help prevent IOM.
