Ace Bandage Application: A Step-by-Step Guide for Injury Support
An Ace bandage is a flexible elastic dressing used to apply compression to an injured extremity or to offer support to an injured joint. Proper application of an Ace bandage is essential to appropriate treatment of an injury as well as avoidance of further damage.Things You'll Need
- Ace bandage
- Metal clips
- Adhesive tape
Instructions
Start at the point furthest from the center of the body. Wrap the bandage two or three times around the extremity. Do not cover any fingers or toes.
Continue wrapping while moving inward toward the body with each turn. Overlap half of the previous wrap with each turn. Ensure that the bandage is only providing slight compression to avoid disrupting the local circulation.
Make a final circular wrap at the point closest to the body. Secure the bandage in place with metal clips or adhesive tape. Adhesive tape may be placed over the metal clips for added protection and stability
