Canine Gastroenteritis: Is it Contagious to Humans?
The stomach flu, also known as gastroenteritis, is a contagious infection of the stomach and intestines. It can be caused by various viruses, bacteria, and parasites. While some strains of gastroenteritis are transmissible between humans and animals, the canine strain of gastroenteritis is not known to be transmissible to humans.
The most common causes of gastroenteritis in dogs are canine parvovirus, canine coronavirus, and certain types of bacteria. These pathogens are spread through direct contact with infected dogs or their feces. Humans can catch certain types of gastroenteritis from dogs through close contact with an infected dog or by ingesting contaminated food or water.
However, the canine strain of gastroenteritis is not one of these transmissible strains. Therefore, it is highly unlikely for humans to catch the stomach flu from dogs.
